...or are you afraid of what will happen, after?
Statistically, Domestic Violence incidents rise near the end of the game, and right after – especially if it’s a favorite team, and heavily contested – whether they win OR lose. Then, if you add alcohol to that mix??! There are an infinite number of factors that could affect the safety of a Victim.
People often ask how they can help someone they know. Invite them to your party. Limit alcohol availability. Do what you can, to mitigate the possibility of further victimization. Be creative…have the partners in another room, doing something else, while the game is on.
There is NO “playbook”, for helping a Victim. You never know if what you do will make a difference – if you feel led, listen to that. Believing the Victim and having Awareness, is a great place to start.
Perpetrators gonna perpetrate; but if people do what they can, it could possibly save someone’s life. You really never know…

...for us to move forward, in life, is to release the "small things" that continue to hold us hostage, where we are. One is grudges - while seemingly huge, are actually a small thing. Believe me - I was raised by a "grudge holding master"!!! Some of my family still holds them; and the "master" has been gone since 2012!!! I have made choices in my life to, first, release grudges that weren't mine to hold; then, to move onto my own - and release them. All a part of the process of personal growth. As a child, I WAS SILENCED about SOOOOO many things: - family secrets - my own Sexual Abuse - how I felt about MOST things etc... Now, as an adult, finally having a voice, I am in the process of learning that it's okay to be silent; that there are MANY times I have NO reason to share my unsolicited opinion. One example - I don't have to insert my opinion on anyone else's life choices. I, personally, believe we all stand alone at the end of our life; my opinion about ANYONE else will not mean a thing, in that moment; so why waste my precious time on earth? Though I may disagree, for whatever reason - I may be given an opportunity to share it - if I'm not, my job is to reconcile it within myself. Our job on earth is to love and be supportive of others. Sometimes, choices must be made, however. We are not required to partake in anything we don't support. The old "love them, but not what they do". ...every day, to be grateful for. I used to think that trying to be happy, when I was so miserable, was being fake. After my epiphany that I had faked it, for so many years, before starting my healing journey, my brain just couldn't comprehend it!!! "Fake it til you make it", was SUCH a cliche; but there IS an element of truth in it. However, if you never start attempting to be positive or happy; it will not just magically appear. Healing takes work - and you're not faking happiness - it is a goal you are striving to reach. THAT is the difference. The beginning step is that gratitude - find ONE thing, no matter how small, EVERY day - I promise you, your life will begin to change. Some days, there will be big gratitude - start with a spark... Domestic Violence, Violence Against Women, etc, has been around pretty much since time began. Does that make it right??! Does it mean we don't fight??! Not from where I'm sitting. We are in the world to do what we can, while we're here. Unfortunately, injustice is the "counterbalance" we need to be able to appreciate justice. Just as we have hate, to feel love, even greater. While I'm pretty sure the initial plan was for love, and only positive - the reality of life isn't that way, so we persevere. This world is a crazy place; but knowing we're not fighting, alone, really helps. The Battle still rages on...will you join us, and raise your battle cry??! Do you ever feel like you are the ONLY person stuck in the type of situation you're in? I used to - years ago, when I WAS stuck!!! It took me MANY years to realize, the ONLY person able to get me UNstuck was ME!!! Yet, try as I may - doing it alone was a losing battle!!! What??! Didn't I just say the ONLY person who could get me unstuck was me??! Yes, I did - by asking for help, to help guide me to get unstuck. Billions of people being on the Earth is NOT a mistake. I believe God created man so even HE wouldn't be alone; so who are we to poo-poo HIS thinking? Trust me - I enjoy my time, alone; but sometimes, it's just NOT good for me. I still have to do the work. Some days, it's all I can do to get myself out of bed; but I surround myself with people that care about me, and hold me accountable. When I mess up, I take responsibility for my actions, and move forward. Sometimes, I am NOT the fastest learner - it takes me a couple times to grasp a life-lesson. I get a lil down, go off and whine for a minute and lick my wounds - then I come back with a new resolve. NO ONE is immune to "life-lessons" - some just take a little longer to really learn. You just have to make the best choices you can, every day. Give yourself a lil grace, and room for error - just don't stay there!!! I have shared about my various struggles, over this last year, in particular. I FINALLY realized, the other day - that the life I was trying to live was NOT sustainable. I had lost all of the focus and discipline I had worked hard to build over MANY years. I know the decline started in the Spring of 2025, with my "Tale of 3 New Cellphones" within 3 weeks. I lost my life-footing, and kept trying to crawl back and "catch up". THAT never works - I even had MANY conversations with myself regarding that fact; attempting to start over from where I was. But I just kept getting further and further behind - though I did keep trying, and trying. I never stopped writing my ideas, but even this Blog suffered. I sincerely apologize - and take full responsibility for my shortcomings. My Vacation was so needed; and then the Holiday Season hit me with a vengeance. Mostly, I didn't know what I was feeling, I really don't think I was, per se - except more and more behind; and SOOOOO overwhelmed with EVERYTHING!!! In looking at my Advent Calendar, still on the wall - I, recently, figured out that I finally just shut down, and went through the motions of my life - from December 15, on. I told my Counselor a couple weeks ago, that my Wicked/Wicked:For Good obsession was the only thing that got me through the year. (In looking back, I've written about how the movie Sister Act helped me survive 1992 - all I can say, is, God's Mysterious Ways.) Well - from this moment on, I will be taking it one moment at a time; and attempting to build, again. I know am not starting from the beginning; but you gotta start somewhere, right??!
