Someone asked me, recently, why I am so involved in Domestic Violence Awareness. I told them I was a child of Domestic Violence; but didn't realize it for many years.
I would tell people about my life at home, matter-of-factly
- not EVEN realizing how messed up it really was. But, in the 60s and 70s, everyone spoke FLUENT "nimby-ism" (not in MY back yard).
Unfortunately, lack of information wasn't the solution to the problem. There have been psa's, movies,
tv shows, posters are everywhere - and it seems cases of Domestic Violence are only rising, even high profile ones; and abusers are "clueless". It's rarely a cut and dried situation, by law; the burden of proof is getting more and more difficult, it seems.
But, in all this, the children Victims, are still wondering why. When you are physically abused - there are scars to heal; emotional and mental scarring is a longer heal.
It can appear physically - via pains,
illnesses, misplaced anger; but cutting through all of that can make the process even more difficult - because it's interwoven with shame.
I do not have any easy answers, but time is a big part. Like most healing, you have to work
through it. I have been working on my own healing for nearly half my life - it IS worth it, but it's not an easy road.
I encourage you to start - somewhere, anywhere, on your healing process. If you have put it down, somewhere, go
back and pick it up.
Find your "why" - mine was to be able to share my story with others, so they may not feel as alone. Sometimes, people are just selfish and mean - but that doesn't mean you can't learn and grow from it - decide
how you do NOT want to be treated, or live your life.
Why is a question - your choices is an answer...
Have a good day, and be safe... #listen #ibelieveyou #doyouhear
*October
is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Please share this post, no matter what month it is, to help get the word out. The Victim has to make the choice - but, "What If..." they read something you sent them, and it just "clicks"?
*I
share a "What If..." post on the first Monday, of every month, and I would love the opportunity to share YOUR "what ifs". Please send your "What If..." ideas to Connie J... - beamererin@yahoo.com; or through Ozer, at the website or email, ozerministries@att.net.
