What If... (Connie J...)

...I had watched the kids closer, when they were coloring eggs - maybe they wouldn't have spilled the food coloring all over their work shirt...

...I hadn't insisted they come to my parent's house for Easter dinner - I knew they didn't want to...they insist my family doesn't like them...

...I had told them I spent the money on the small amount of Easter toys and candy - maybe, the kids wouldn't have had to bear their rage??!

...I hadn't asked them to watch the ham, while we were in church - it wouldn't have burned. I know they don't cook, what was I thinking??!

...I hadn't invited my sister, their least favorite person, to dinner...she just cares about me, and wants me to be safe...

...I could just enjoy a normal holiday, without all the drama they infuse into nearly every situation??!

...We had driven separately, like they wanted - I could have had some much-needed family time; and my family wouldn't have "seen them in action"...

...I was just better with the kids - maybe they wouldn't demean me in front of everyone - at church, at my parent's, at the store, at home...

Does any of this sound waaaaay too familiar??! Holidays seem to "bring out the best" in Domestic Violence perpetrators...
