Often, when people are in the depths of Domestic Violence, their thought process becomes muddled - trumping EVERY other feeling, or thought process, by pain.
I have mentioned an Escape Plan, before; but here is a basic start of one.
1 - tell a safe person
2 - pack a bag - shot records, kids toys, medications, etc
3 - seek resources
4 - keep records
5 - pet care
1/3 - If you don't have a Friend, or Family member to help, contact a shelter. They are trained in this, and can give you a plethora of options.
2 - I recommend possibly a laundry basket full of clothes. Just tuck everything in amongst the clothes - looks normal, right??! (That's what my Friend did.) Be creative.
4 - Keep a notebook; a safe, secret app on your phone (give it a boring title, like a recipe, or something that your partner would show NO interest in). Write down everything you can remember - every detrimental statement, injury, etc. Remember, abuse is NOT just physical. If it is not safe, in YOUR home, ask a Friend to keep it for you. Even message a friend, and ask them to save it for you, and delete your messages.
5 - Often the perpetrator will use pets as targets to hurt you. Now, not to minimize them; but the "put your oxygen mask on first" goes for them, also.
These are just a few ideas, by no means, exhaustive...
Have a good day, and be safe... #EtSoV #ENDtheSILENCEofVIOLENCE
