"Shame is feeling bad about WHO you are; while guilt is feeling really bad about your actions. ie - 'I did a dumb thing'." (DKH)
As you can see, there is a definite difference between the two; but people have a tendency to glom them
together - thereby creating an even bigger issue.
As in every part of the healing process, there is the breaking down of huge, unmanageable issues into smaller, manageable ones; and placing them in their proper places.
Take a moment,
and think about any issues that have caused you shame or guilt, throughout your life - at the time, they shaped how you viewed the world around you.
When you look back, can you see where either you, or someone you may have trusted, piled shame
on top of an already high heap of guilt? Is it time to break down that pile, and put the guilt and shame where it belongs? Or to look and see if shame was even necessary, at the time; and even less necessary now?
Have a good day, and be safe...
