Was recently reminded of a line from a song from the 70's, "...no one knows what goes on behind closed doors...". It was written as a love song, but to a Domestic Violence Victim, it plays a different tune.
SOMEONE knows what goes on behind closed
doors, do you? Does what goes on leave a pit in your stomach? Do you feel shame for what goes on? Do you feel like it's your fault? Do you feel helpless? Hopeless?
Help is available, but YOU have to take that terrifying first step. You have
to come to the point of realization that your silence will NOT make the situation better. There is nothing to be ashamed of. It IS NOT your fault. No one deserves to be abused.
This brings me to the source of my reminder. I received a flyer for
the 2nd Annual Artisans Against Domestic Violence Art Show; Theme: "Domestic Violence, what happens behind closed doors". The top 20 submissions selected will show their work on February 24-26, 2017, and be evaluated by a Select Panel of Judges. First and
Second Place will be announced February 24. Winners Artwork will be used on Flyers and Business Cards. Art Show Location: Courtyard Square in Salem, OH. Sponsored by: NO MORE Campaign of Columbiana County. For more information please email: email@example.com.
I attended the Art Show last year, and was moved by the variety, and creativity of the artists, and am looking forward to this year's show.
I myself, am currently haunted by a picture I have in my head of a door. I'm always interested
to see what becomes of those visuals.
